Terence Fixmer :: Bells EP (Electric Deluxe)

Billed as a ‘homage to the pitch black dance floors of the night,’ Fixmer serves up exactly that with an absolute belter of classic rolling techno.

terence-fixmer-bells-ep Bells EP is Fixmer’s fifth release for Electric Deluxe and picks up exactly where When the Sun left off—right slap bang in the middle of the dance, surrounded by wide eyed ravers ascending to a higher plane of techno enjoyment. If you’re at the right kind of party of course.

The repetitive refrain of “Bells” is pure Millsian in dynamic (perhaps the EP name itself a nod to his influence) with a fine mid track shift into further sci-fi explorations that could have originated from the Detroit legend himself. That’s not to do Fixmer an injustice, this kind of music feels incredibly hard to perfect yet is worked with a deft touch in these experienced hands.

As with all good techno it’s the push pull of the surrounding effects and percussion that propel things forward—here it’s the occasional belching synth stab, reverb drenched snare hit and a half tempo ride cymbal. On the flip we find “Subspace”—much more of a dubby work out but no less enjoyable as phased pulsing synths weave a skanking pattern throughout. A great EP; as to be expected from this excellent French producer.

Bells EP is available on Electric Deluxe.
