(08.08.06) The wall of auditory promise is back with another on target release by Somatic Responses entitled Giauzar. These audio sculptors have crafted yet another masterpiece in sonic art that is at times nostalgic, metallically symphonic and most progressively post-industrial, sometimes all at the same time. Take the second track, which seams to channel the very spirit of early Meat Beat Manifesto (I can almost hear Jack singing), “B-Boy 3000” is a funk metallic fist that’s not afraid to dance ’till the building comes down. The disc grinds, and I do mean grinds in so many senses throughout the tracks, victoriously laying waist to anything in its path, coming to another stunner, “Germ,” which although unrelenting, the beautiful melody that emerges out of the chaos caught my ear hard.

As we wander through the second half of the disc, more precision carved surprises are found along the way. “Sagitta,” track ten, is an electro monster zooming within audio corridors, ripping its way through digital earth. “Strangulartk Robot,” although on the softer side, is a great track of more caustic electro.

These guys just keep getting better, making great records along the way and we are receiving the benefit of their musical innovations. It is always an up-note listening to their discs and this is no exception. They are one of the many carrying the torch into the new digital frontier.

Giauzar is out now on Sublight. [Bandcamp]
