Yclept :: Yclept (Noided Media) — [concise]

A beautifully dysfunctional journey, Yclept is a warped homage to the experimental electronics of yesteryear, filtered through a distinctly modern, fractured lens.

Once known as Voxish and now bearing the moniker Yclept—a term drawn from Middle English meaning “called” or “named”—this self-titled nine-track release on Noided cleaves through classic IDM architectures with jagged industrial undertones. A fusion of ambient drift, meticulous sound design, and deftly sequenced rhythms, it kicks off with the clanging, off-kilter motion of “Prayer,” before “Ectomes” tumbles into splintered beats and scattered tonal glimmers.

Embracing the oddities of breakcore, early gaming sound palettes, and unconventional electronic hues, tracks like “Calico” draw things inward, cooled by synth washes that feel as if they’ve traveled vast galactic distances. The final moments—“Icon” and “Slend”—move through layers of retro IDM grit, crunch-heavy percussion, and skewed progressions that disorient as much as they hypnotize.

A beautifully dysfunctional journey, Yclept is a warped homage to the experimental electronics of yesteryear, filtered through a distinctly modern, fractured lens.
