Serious musical capacity and a deep love of form sit at the core of Yakuza Jacuzzi’s Wabi-Sabi, a quietly confident four-track release that leans into texture, tone, and patience. There’s a soft synthwave wash across its east-facing mood, giving the whole record a cohesive, gently transportive character.

Opener “Jade Emperor’s Peace Garden” sets the palette with a measured, authoritative drift through its own imagined landscape. Synths swell and recede with purpose, while flute-like tones lilt delicately over water-like ambience. Beneath it all, Linn-style drums strut with a subtle swagger, grounding the piece without disrupting its calm surface. It establishes a world rather than just a track. “Aerial Burial” moves into more exploratory territory. While its tonal language feels familiar, the structure pushes outward, almost prog-like in its unfolding. It pulses forward with a sense of searching momentum, edging into something that could be called “progtronica” without feeling forced. There’s a maturity in how it handles repetition and variation. Similarly, the title track “Wabi-Sabi” refines these ideas, staying within the same sonic ecosystem while carving its own identity through wisdom, restraint and dynamic detail. Closing with “Jade Emperor’s Peace Garden Part 2,” the release finds its most dynamic moment. A rolling bassline and fine-edged glitch textures bring movement and tension, balancing groove with intricacy. It feels elemental, focused, and quietly assured.
So then, Jacuzzi’s Wabi-Sabi delivers here a nicely refined journey blending somewhat-synthwave textures, known organic tones, and subtle and assured rhythmology, balancing with craft atmospheres of intention with a known exploratory progression and mature restraint throughout a quietly immersive sonic sound-world. Great job.
