The Politician EP by Icelandic exports Worm is Green, presents its own tasteful slice of classic club culture.
This EP features a number of remixes of the title track “The Politician”—the most eerie of which is the Bitcrush remix. It emerges with touches of sad tones, camouflaged by the shimmering plates of echoes, producing a spacious epic of beckoning instrumental forces. A distinct richness prevails here—glistening synths swell like ink on watercolor paper. It gradually becomes more weighted, as it builds towards broken beats which tighten the whole track. The movement of the interweaving textures is like wind passing through trees-branches of synth swirls swaying back and forth.
“There is a Pattern” is the most prominent example of ’80s synth styled dance, taking the form of classic club mixes and sharp beats. The bassline marks an abyssal groove with beat like clasps adding variation. Gentle melody edges on the brink of darkness while the vocal line lifts it slightly, ensuring the shadows are touched by neon lights – a dance floor classic.
“Meet Syntheus” has an intro of computerized bleeps and blips before hitting the target with assistance from a bass line that’s deep enough to cut dense grooves as it takes to its distinctive path. Its melodic line rests well upon the cushion of its depth, while stark edgy sounds give it a scratchy surface on which to sketch its story. Also featured on this EP are impressive remixes by Skurken, Tonik and Nemesis, all of which provide an excellent taster as to what will hopefully follow from Worm is Green in terms of a full on release.
Note: The concept for this project is to release 9 EP’s in 9 months; one for each track featured on their Glow full-length except for the title track. The fall of 2010 will see the physical release of Glow, also on ata-digital.
