With the perpetual quantity of music filling the Igloo Mag offices over the past year, how does an independent electronic label tell their listeners that Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Rogers, & Kenny G are all featured on their latest release? Well, most people would probably flip to the next CD in their local CD/Vinyl bin, some brainwashed individuals may even find it “cool” and just grab it because the mainstream have accepted it. Well, We Bore includes relatively recognized artists using sound-sources from music they “dislike” to create music that they do like. In this case we see people like Marumari (Carpark), Solenoid (Emanate/OMCO), ML (n5MD), Asterisk (aka Greg Davis/Carpark) recreating, manipulating and revamping sound sources to their satisfaction to create an enjoyable palette of smooth electronics. Without veering too far off into the experimental field (Danny 1 is an exception).. most of We Bore manages to flow into rhythmic electrical pieces as the artists tweaking the machines consistently distort all the original sources to their liking (PLS_WDTH is the perfect example of this sort of distorted ambient aesthetic).

For those of you who can place your ears around these peculiar musical formations, go right ahead. We Bore has good intentions but doesn’t fully sparkle in any which direction. Instead you’re left with disjointed electrical bits that bend, tweak, distort, and maneuver their way around (almost) unrecognizable “original” sound sources. Highlights include Marumari’s “Submarine Tactics” where he uses Eno’s “Sade” sound samples to good use & ML’s “You Make my Lawn Grow” utilizing Mo Do’s “Eins Zwei Polizei” audio/vocal sources to create an energetic & upbeat electro manifesto. For $4, however, you can’t go wrong with this compilation.
