Le Rire (Un Hommage A Luc Marianni) is a strange concoction on music. Acid, Indie Electronics and Electro abstraction all feature across three tracks.
[Discogs] Electronic music is the bastion of the small label. True, there are quite big imprints releasing decent music. But, in general, it is those of miniscule proportions that are the lifeblood. It is usually the label running out of a bedroom, a sitting room, or a shed, that gives time and vinyl space to new artists. Some even manage to coax an established name to donate a track, or two—DDD falls into this category. This French fledgling has left the nest with a three tracker of knowns, unknowns and (maybe) rediscovereds.
Le Rire (Un Hommage A Luc Marianni) takes its inspiration from French experimentalist Luc Marianni who, in the 1980s, tested the waters of Electronics. Detroit’s Jared Wilson opens the show with “Fr. Face (Half And Half Mix).” 808, 303 and Acid House is the station of arrival. Wilson lessens his usual ferocity for a thoughtful piece akin to Orgue Electronique or Chirs Moss Acid. A quick skip across the pond finds the Glasgow’s Dam Mantle and “Oranges and Lemons.” The Scots dish up a confused piece of electronics. A steady beat is the only sanctuary in the cacophony of dubby reverberations and samples. A strange number. Dutch recluse, and Bunker veteran, Nukubus occupies the flip with his lengthy remix of Luc Marianni’s “Six Synthetic Suites.” Nukubus takes the abstract classicism of the original and anchors it with beats and bass. Nevertheless, the experimental quality remains for an interesting track that borders the lines of Electro and Ambient.
Le Rire (Un Hommage A Luc Marianni) is a strange concoction on music. Acid, Indie Electronics and Electro abstraction all feature across three tracks. The only track that doesn’t really sit well is Dam Mantle’s addition, which is surprising with some of their past material. An intriguing project and start for DDD.
