Symons’ skillful sonic reconfiguration and melancholy rhythms are as sugary as anything we’ve heard recently, serving as a soundtrack to a bygone era, and Strange Tales stands tall as a pinnacle effort.

A leisurely journey through the 1990s and a sudden plunge into the future

In a return to his [d]-tached roots, Bovaflux (Eddie Symons) splits Strange Tales with mindcolormusic. From front to back, the album is jam-packed with gorgeous electro-synth tracks. The smothered old-school electronica on display is both danceable and comfortable for lounging to, transporting us to the earlier Artificial Intelligence era when artists like Musicology, Speedy J, and Autechre showcased blissful electronics infused with hints of Detroit techno and British electro-IDM textures. Symons’ skillful sonic reconfiguration and melancholy rhythms are as sugary as anything we’ve heard recently, serving as a soundtrack to a bygone era, and Strange Tales stands tall as a pinnacle effort. A leisurely journey through the 1990s and a sudden plunge into the future.

Strange Tales is available on mindcolormusic / [d]-tached. [Bandcamp]
