The Young Gods :: Super Ready/Fragment

(04.22.07) The Young Gods have been through many different forms in their time so it’s
difficult to know what you’re going to get from an album of theirs.
Personally I see this as a very good thing, there’s nothing more boring than
getting just what you expect.

To sum it up quickly for those who skim-read, Super Ready/Fragmenté is a
rock album with lots of modern glitch, digital dirt and ethnic instruments.
But as is usually the case, the whole is much more than the sum of its parts.
To fans of The Young Gods I will describe it as a superior, more modern TV
Sky
. Which, if you’re a fan, you’ll know is high praise indeed.

The rock tracks are raw with real drums, loads of digital dirt and the
doors-like echoed haunting vocals adding up to make a really visceral, “meat
scraped straight off the bone” feel. Much better than any other
rock/industrial crossover as The Young Gods have aimed more for balls out
dirty rock, 60s psychedelia and punk than the cool, clinical feel of metal
that so many other acts go for.

As well as the rock tracks there are some beautiful slow tracks such as
“Stay with us” which mainly consists of vocoded vocals and sitars and sounds
absolutely wonderful. In fact, pretty much every track on this album is
excellent but “The Colour Code” also really hits it for me, the almost
psychedelic feel as it flows through the tune, and the vocals have never
been more haunting.

Beautifully recorded and superbly written and realized, Super Ready/Fragmenté is probably The Young Gods’ best work yet. If you like The
Young Gods stop whatever you’re doing, whatever it is and go and buy this,
you’ll love it. For newcomers, this is a great place to start discovering
them.
