The first album to see the light of day for this record label from Adelaide,
Australia. Super Science has put together a very solid debut here. Decent
song-writing (in all senses -yes, Mark Mitchell sings on several tracks) lends great
cohesion to a variety of moods, from boppy swinging numbers to short stompers
through to expansive, gradual developers. I’d thoroughly recommend the album
to fans of bands like Black Dog (maybe more with Plaid on board) or Mouse On
Mars. There’s a similar kind of genuine melodic and harmonic development
happening here, as well as a richness and diversity production aesthetic.
Definitely one of very few so-called melodic IDM releases that manages to
avoid just seeming a little dated.
