Civik Records are becoming increasingly aware of all things cold, chilled and melodic. Add with this the magnetic frequencies of Colorado’s Ten & Tracer and the formula is intensified that much more. What do we mean here? Well, electronic music to start with and naturally occurring beauty as the foundation for all things herein. RedixWinter is the latest in a series of 7″ releases on Calgary (Canada) based Civik Records –Ten & Tracer (Jon Canupp) supplies the abstract yet pleasant ambient tones on this lovely slab of wax.
RedixWinter state of sounds and pictures..
Place yourself in the deepest state of thought, and imagine the most tranquil and cooler areas of your mind not usually visited during the day. Is it night, or is it day? Well, the ‘A’ side’s “RedixWinter” wisps away like a cargo-ship set to sea. Odd vocal outbursts are whispered and a thick bassline trembles alongs while a sincere percussive beat gently taps away in the background. This is the landscape, one you can’t really escape. It’s the sound of Ten & Tracer, a gentle flavor of music that carves a groove into your mind’s ear. Thoughtful and delightful at the same time, “RedixWinter” ends with an upbeat sampled melody that seems entirely out of place but unusually uplifting. The ‘B’ side of RedixWinter, a track called “LedixWinter” reanimates a similar beat but is spiced just a little more than ‘A’ side’s snappy groove. The signature flute melodies wave in front of your eyes, and a very emotional rhythm lifts you to a place far away. Does the ‘B’ side generate those reoccurring childhood memories, or does it simply relax each and every brain cell? What is the true meaning behind these symphonic frequencies? One can only deduce that RedixWinter is a blueprint of all things emotive. Each melody accurately marks the foundation of thought that is inspired by pictures. These sounds depict the layers that peel away from these pictures, and RedixWinter displays each of them like a watercolor painting on canvass.
RedixWinter is an entity of its own –very much alive and creative with each organic element acting like a branch on an old Redwood. Mystifyingly abstract yet melodically enriched, this is the sound of Ten & Tracer. Prepare to reflect.
