Sunwarper :: Radiant Visage (Audionautic)

Imagine an enjoyment beyond your understanding; that’s what makes us curious about art. In that way, this record by Sunwarper (aka Los Angeles-based Michael Jakucs) makes me curious.

An emotional bungee jump of audio bliss

This album makes me feel good but not in a “3 minute pop song” kind of way. It’s much more of a genuine ME that is enjoying, beneath my consciousness. Imagine an enjoyment beyond your understanding; that’s what makes us curious about art. In that way, this record by Sunwarper (aka Los Angeles-based Michael Jakucs) makes me curious. After a full pass-thru of Radiant Visage, and on my way to listen on high-end headphones, I realized where I had felt this feeling before.

As a personal rule, I do not compare artists. However, in this case track 2, “Farther,” transported me back to an M83 performance on KCRW. It was a flawless performance and exactly the same free magical in-the-zone feeling—like an emotional bungee jump of audio bliss. It’s notable that Jakucs mentions Boards of Canada (who I love, and get why they’re mentioned.) That said, no comparison here, this reviewer is simply enjoying a sacred feeling I was lucky enough to feel two times by two different electronic musicians. Yes… take us away. Overall, there is so much more amazing potential here, I want more.

Radiant Visage is available on Audionautic October 14, 2022. [Bandcamp]
