SMPL SMPL’s Questions takes his signature heavy low-end electro to more technoid formations and transitions. The development of late night mood shifts and engaged song structures wrapped around melodic grooves (ref. “Perfect stranger”) are etched within robotic layers and polyrhythmic strands. Danceable yet complex enough to chill with, the title track embarks on a soundtrack voyage of subdued ambient wanderings and timid glitch extracts as “Outer Depth” delivers four-to-the-floor techno production from outer space. Definitely leaving us with more questions than answers, “Delusion” is utter perfection—a blend of shape-shifted beat patches and downtempo modular activity that submerges itself within funky breaks and wobbling bass thuds. Overall, Questions is a powerful collection of benchmark electronics with its peaks and valleys in constant flux.
