skintape :: MASTOID EP (Ohm Resistance)

An electronic sludge of processed voices, gritty beats, and scorched blips’n bleeps madness.

Roughened, textured, and blistered electronics

An upfront industrial hip-hop edge is in full-force on skintape‘s MASTOID 3-track EP for Ohm Resistance with all the hardware and various effects pedals on fire. The concept was intended to showcase the possibility of sampling from specific sources, like recordings from the hospital in which layers of sound were sampled via (ear) doctor visits. The result is an electronic sludge of processed voices, gritty beats, and scorched blips’n bleeps madness. “TEST” flickers through these audible voices and smoldering electronics to kick things off as “EARDRUM” is a behemoth in and of itself—diving head-first into tangled drums, obliterated bass, broken notes, wicked distortion, and gritty rhythm, this one is primed and ready to take over. “AUDIOLOGY” follows a similar path, albeit with a more direct focus on melody and funky structural groove—its shuffled and sampled background audiological loop is tethered to a downbeat and noisy sonic avalanche. In all MASTOID sets the stage for roughened, textured, and blistered electronics.
