Skatebård :: Love In The Night (Bordello A Parigi)

This is not crushed distortion or Acid squalor, instead it is a developed dancefloor project; a sound for late night sessions and armchair moments.

Bordello A Parigi has mainly focused on Disco and Italo since its inception. For its latest the Dutch imprint has shifted its focus. Skatebård (aka Bård Aasen Lødemel) has an extensive back catalog. The Digitalo Enterprises founder has released his brand of Electro, Techno and House on labels like Keys of Life, Radius and Sex Tags Mania. For Bordello Lødemel combines his extensive knowledge for Love In The Night.

“Love In The Night” sees Skatebård enter House once again. Deep basslines are coupled with a darkened rhythm. From these shadowy undercurrents come light chords, uplifting arcs and a complexity that transcends much of the House sounds of today. Soundtrack, or even Techno, movements rise out of the snapping beats that elevate “Love in the Night” onto another plain. A track that plumbs the depths without resorting to minimalism, a cerebral and complex creation. “Palais D’Amour’ keeps the House train rolling. Claps and shakers weave into a groove soaked rhythm. The pace is upped as elements of Chicago are woven with echoes of Europe’s electronic disco scene.

Two seriously accomplished servings from Skatebård. House, as any one with a pair of ears will know, has become all pervasive. I’m a fan, but must admit saturation point is being reached (or surpassed.) Skatebård’s blending of sympathetic sounds is a rarity in the House revival. This is not crushed distortion or Acid squalor, instead it is a developed dancefloor project; a sound for late night sessions and armchair moments. One downside, those two tracks could have been double or even tripled. Next time, more.
