Bordello A Parigi is opening its 2014 account with contemporary artists. Following on from the likes of Heinrich Dressel and Franz Underwear comes a veteran of the Dutch imprint. Mario Moretti first graced BAP with Past Present Perfect and is returning to Holland with Spaziotempo.
The title piece is first to appear. A steady rhythm is met by rumbling arpeggios, pace and energy taking hold from the beginning. The melody reveals itself as a full figured dancefloor filler. Wearing a fair grin, the track bounces with the enthusiasm of past Electro Disco artists like Koto or contemporaries such as Ali Renault. Franz Underwear dishes up a dub interpretation of Spaziotempo. The Italian slows down the original, reducing the bpm and reworking melodies for a moodier take. “Multiverse” introduces the flip as an immediate cosmic influence takes hold. Beats snap with a heavy rasp but the chords are light and free-floating, rising and flowing before cascading. Moretti’s analogue warmth is maintained to the close. “Rush” flexes with breathy vocals and heartening key changes.
Over the past five years there has been less interest in contemporary Electro Disco, or less people are choosing to make it. Perhaps it’s the malaise of the global downturn that has lead people back to the harsher tones of House. But with Winter beginning to pass, seasonally and hopefully economically, Spaziotempo is a pleasing and spirited lead into Spring.
Spaziotempo is available on Bordello A Parigi.
