Sedibus :: The Heavens (Orbscure)

First release on Orbscure is Sedibus’ The Heavens album: Alex Paterson in collaboration with Andy Falconer (released 28th May). Falconer brings an epic, deliberate, and slowly evolving soundscape of soaring orchestral sounds and synthesizers, while Alex lays down a thick layer of his signature field recordings and aural candy.

Like mountains dropping sweet wine

Alex Paterson and Andy Falconer reunite after nearly 30 years to collaborate on what is almost very nearly an Orb album but then also, clearly isn’t. Falconer brings an epic, deliberate, and slowly evolving soundscape of soaring orchestral sounds and synthesizers, while Alex lays down a thick layer of his signature field recordings and aural candy. It’s a great combination and calls to mind The Orb’s Chill Out, World!, not simple, minimalist “ambient” music, but more like an audio movie of different soundscapes explored. Mountains dropping sweet wine, hills melting, low earth orbit at dawn, and the very heavens themselves are all rendered in vivid, broad strokes of the sonic brush. Sure to be a classic, hopefully we hear much more from Andy in the future!

The Heavens is available on Orbscure. [Bandcamp]
