While Eaciv+ rests on melancholic glitch extracts, the balance between light and dark is elevated by extruded beatwork and exploratory blips’n bleeps weaving through a myriad of gently floating melodic patches. An outstanding collection that is both spellbinding and hypnotic start to finish.
Melancholic glitch extracts
Originally self released as a limited edition CDr in 2005, Eaciv+ is expanded with new artwork and several additional and released tracks on the ever dependable Touched Music.
With 23-tracks to consume, rRine takes some time to unravel. The plethora of layers from minimal electronics to glitchy pulses take center stage as rRine borrows from the nostalgic, emotive, and tranquilized rhythms of Atol Scrap-era Arovane—just have a listen to the melodically drenched overflows of “Nidle,” “Low Ruin” and “Cuttip Null” as a prime examples. As the album expands and contracts, there are several microscopic elements blending and coalescing—an organic quality that can’t be ignored as each track pushes forward. “Soft Bind” takes sparse melodic brushes across beautifully executed beats creating a sonic palette like no other. There are miniscule ambient bubbles that burst and flicker at all the right moments—lost memories come to life as IDM shuffling and brisk drone-scapes evolve and devolve. Tracks like “Alt Done” and “Eluvium” drift and fall apart with rhythmic spurts that are buried in their glitchy electronic fabric. As these 23 pieces seamlessly glide by, tracks like “Phyla” and “Lowfibip” are transformed to otherworldly lifeforms that run parallel to The Future Sound of London’s strange and exotic landscapes.
