Rontronik delivers flowing and bass-drenched sonic turbulence that casts memorable shadows and lightwaves across its 35-minute duration.
Ron Croudy (aka Rontronik, technique:concrete, and part-founder of the Töshöklabs imprint) continues to forge heavy, beat-infused rhythms from one end of the spectrum to the other. His production skills have elevated on this extended player as low-end rumbling is deeper than the Mariana Trench. As a result, D A T A S H I F T is a beast of a 6-pack.
“Ghost Network” and “Blackout” feature Scorn-infested mayhem, sand-blasted breaks and rugged beats in the darkness. On an electro-sparked tilt, “Datashift 6” is robotic in execution—mechanical and gritty breakcore at its finest whereas its sibling “Plume” delves into danceable Detroit-inspired structures. Croudy’s sound-sourcing balance is distilled on the minimal clicks, crackles and whirs of “Morning Dew”—a sizzling data swirl and timid digital flutter is the outcome. Soundtrack atmospherics develop on “Dismantling Thought” which easily brings this EP full-circle. Radiant Artificial Intelligence-era echoes and transformative downtempo-electronica builds upon itself in a 9-minute epic traverse across the Sun.
In all, Rontronik delivers flowing and bass-drenched sonic turbulence that casts memorable shadows and lightwaves across its 35-minute duration.
