Lux have returned to the shadows and sought new sounds with a trio of formidable acclaim.
In spite of its Latin rooted name, Lux Rec seeks the darker side of House and Techno. The Swiss imprint has stalked charcoal nights and muggy silent cities with artists like Echo 106 and Jared Wilson. Lighter moments have pierced through the soot, the uplifting moments of Alessandro Parisi or Murphy Jax’s serene soundtracks. For their latest Lux have returned to the shadows and sought new sounds with a trio of formidable acclaim. R-A-G may be a new name to some, but for those familiar with M>O>S> they’ll be well known. Aroy Dee, Gstring and Marco Antonio Spaventi have put together four excellent EPs to date, and are taking their first collective step off M>O>S> with Life.
The intent laden “Disorder” gets the horror show on the road. Bulbous bass lines are further bolstered by harrowing claps and stabbing synthlines. The track comes from the nastier side of House, late night criminality, with just a hint of redemption, painted in scoured analogue lines. Spaventi’s Tape Edit of “Repression” is up next. That same latent character is present. Contained Acid lines are tapered. Claps and toms are added to add some extra mustard to this jaggedly smooth transaction. “OD” ends. A bare finale, the threesome stripping back the final furnishings to leave a cold and sheer close.
R-A-G were always going to deliver something of quality, and they have. Across twelve inches the triumvirate have brought together a barren, yet vivid, collection of Chicago inspired tracks. Likewise, a coup for Lux, drawing R-A-G away from their Dutch home for three superb hardware honed tracks.
Life is available on Lux Rec.
