Büchel traverses space without losing his communication lines with Chicago Central. The EP pulls on prolonged melody paths, at times slipping into Techno, but is truly anchored in the sounds of House.

CCO :: Music for Cosmonauts

With House, in all its incarnations, it can be difficult to sift through the flood of material. Despite the growing popularity of the sound diluting some of the quality, there are still some thoroughbreds out there promoting the underworld of the 303, 707 and 808. Lux Rec is dedicated to exploring high quality House. Various guises of the sound have been investigated, Deep, Acid and Jak have all come under the Swiss lense. Lux Rec continue their excursion with a new EP from a veteran of the label. In 2010 Florin Büchel aka CCO transmitted the excellent ‘The Secret Life of a Transistor Bassline’ via the Alps adjacent imprint. Now returns with Music for Cosmonauts.

The EP was born from a live set by CCO back in January 2012. Certain sections of the gig have been revisited, touched up, and now have a wider audience. The record is a feast of mechanical machine music. The army of Roland equipment that created the coarse yet soulful sounds of Chicago are all present. Part 1 sees Büchel paint broad strokes of bass dappled with beats, hi-hats and claps. Acid lines are used to cut through thickening layers. The EP contains two solid parts mixed through in their entirety. But there is enough space for the DJ conscious to find the necessary breaks for his/her own devices. The tracks are balanced between dancefloor punch and headphone abstraction. CCO adds deep rumbling sounds to the dark side of Acid tweaks and metronomic claps. The voyage continues in Part 2. Extended 303 echoes orbit snares and astral undercurrents. Knob wrenches are stretched by elliptical forces whilst hi-hats and pulses ricochet within the machinery. A lengthy Roland landing closes with a flourish of beats and bass.

Büchel traverses space without losing his communication lines with Chicago Central. The EP pulls on prolonged melody paths, at times slipping into Techno, but is truly anchored in the sounds of House. An assortment of experimented pieces cleaned and shot into space on a piece of vinyl. An epic flight into the mind of this music man.
