Crunch, melody, rhythm collide

Point Central’s second chapter brings ten artists across eight cuts, slicing into crunchy electronic forms and igniting an old-school IDM pulse once championed by imprints like Djak-Up-Bitch, Ai Records, Delikatessen, Eat Concrete, Chocolate Industries, Musik Aus Strom, Schematic, and Isophlux. Forward-leaning yet deeply referential, this collection reinforces Science Cult as a label operating light-years ahead, curating lush but hard-hitting sound design with precision.

Zeuge opens proceedings via “Goaßgschau,” unleashing heavyweight downtempo breakbeat pressure, before omni causa’s Bandcamp-only “chillin wit teo w” drifts through granular drones and crunchy melodic figures, isolating percussion in a way that recalls early IDM’s darker corners. Roel Funcken follows with “Idris,” where his unmistakable rhythmic warping of blips and bleeps bends time into tightly coiled motion.

Flow remains concise throughout, each piece locking into place with intent. b0t23 and inoperative system’s “Binary” unfolds expansive glitch atmospheres and fractured breaks, charged with emotive flare and running in parallel tension to Funcken’s approach. Fleck E.S.C.’s “Freese Fried” pivots toward mechanical propulsion, modular blasts unfurling in deliberate slow motion.

Momentum spikes toward closing moments as Grey Over Life’s “Lobster” dominates with relentless breaks and pummeling beats, scattering energy across jittered formations. Kim Cosmik’s “Crystalline” pushes breakcore into splintered rhythmic collapse, setting up Syrte & The Emissary’s finale “Mariana Net,” where pristine fragments and bubbling signals erupt in controlled bursts.
