An electrical smattering filled with detailed microscopic flickering.
Playmodes’ Plegat extended player for Spain’s Discontinu is simply an electrical smattering filled with detailed microscopic flickering. Four original pieces and a rendition has Playmodes flexing a veritable mixture of styles that will hopefully yield a full-length album. “Temps: Frecuencia” pushes sizzling digital clicks, crackling bass and a rhythmic allure of eroded bleeps not unlike those emanating from Raster-Noton headquarters. “Trencacloques” leaves a glitch’n rumble trail—a balance of crisp sound snippets and melodic bubbles that take on various geometrical shapes. “Fold” reflects a swirling cosmos of claps, crashing atoms, synths sway and raw deformed data blasts. “Fold” receives a remix by Motorheidi which nudges the track into upbeat, head-bobbing terrain. “Autofunk” is perhaps the most coherent slice of Autechre-inspired acrobatics and funky electronic pulsars. “Núvol” migrates into minimized bass crunching packed with smoldering electroacoustic buzzing and buried melodies with a slight dubstep lullaby. Ultimately Plegat is an essential electronic passageway into what is very likely to be a sparkling future for the talented musician.
