Part Timer :: Interiority Complex (Self Released)

Stunningly beautiful, detailed snapshots that make you want to hear more, to know more, to feel more. It’s an album that leaves you wanting more, and that’s what makes it almost perfect.

A rose tinted nostalgic view of times gone by

John McCaffrey is back once again as Part Timer with a new album titled Interiority Complex, and it’s a masterpiece. A terrific blend of ambient, neo-classical and contemporary electronics that somehow manages to sound like it’s from another time, a rose tinted nostalgic view of times gone by. McCaffrey is a gifted musician and producer who understands the power of dynamics and I’ve no doubt the highly talented, Ian Hawgood’s mastering helped in this department (curator of Home Normal, and also ran the Nomadic Kids Republic, Koen Music, and Tokyo Droning labels during his ten years in Japan.) It’s been beautifully mastered.

These pieces really move you and despite their minimalism (in part), they fill up the room so to speak, and the music is a truly all encompassing experience as a result. You really ‘feel’ it.

We’re told by the artist himself that there’s no over-arching concept to this album, and while that might be the case, it is a very cohesive one. I would argue that an artist who’s been working for 16 years, is an ongoing concept, and this to me is apparent in the music on this album. It’s simply beautiful stuff, each track is heavily laden with emotion and you really feel like you’re being told a story, even if it is in ‘snapshots’ as the artist describes it. Stunningly beautiful, detailed snapshots that make you want to hear more, to know more, to feel more. It’s an album that leaves you wanting more, and that’s what makes it almost perfect.

Interiority Complex is available on Bandcamp.
