øjeRum is the microtonal sound art project of Danish composer and visual artist Paw Grabowski, known for his prolific work in long-form drone ambient. First discovered through The Blossoming of the Nothingness Trees on Fluid Audio, he has since released on notable labels like Quiet Details, Cyclic Law, and eilean rec. His latest album, Drømme I Langsomt Stof (Glacial Movements), blends melancholic tones with subtle microtextural shifts, offering a cold yet emotionally rich listening experience.

øjeRum from Denmark is the microtonal sound art project of crafted based visual designer and composer Paw Grabowski. I first discovered his music some time ago through The Blossoming of the Nothingness Trees on the UK-based Fluid Audio/Facture label—around the same time they were promoting my own early work. Grabowski is undoubtedly one of the most prolific and notable artists in what could be described as hyper-perceptual, long-form drone ambient. Just as many others of his releases published on well noted indie labels such as quiet details, Cyclic Law, Aurora Borealis, and eilean rec..

Drømme I Langsomt Stof demonstrates a tremendous compositional ability for silky and organic droning ambient music, with a sense of peacefulness but also of latent tense drama thanks to the use of melancholic tones. This new album adopts a sense of solemn stillness with elegant, highly processed sounds intertwined in a deep abstract orchestration. øjeRum intentionally reorients his musical purpose toward something colder—more wintry and arctic—yet still retains his characteristic sense of lament and poignant vibrancy. The music oscillates with delicate, at times almost imperceptible, micro-changes, radiating within an all-white sonic landscape. A deeply satisfying album built on expansive, sculpted ambient sequences—almost cathartic, provided one adopts the right disposition to fully appreciate it. Subtle, environmental, crystal-like micro found sounds flow sensitively through soundscapes shaped by gradually evolving chordal timbres and overtones. A cerebral and sensuous musical journey all at once.

Anything rooted in dense yet slowly shifting, ominously textured ambient—carrying polar, emotive drone qualities—will evoke similar psychoacoustic effects, from Thomas Köner to Lull, Sleep Research Facility, Hoarfrost, Inner Vision Laboratory, and Gareth Hardwick. Ideal for mental journeys or contemplative moments spent imagining oneself lost in a not-so-hostile Nordic landscape. A welcome addition to Glacial Movements’ already substantial catalog.
