Relentless percussive sound collages
Based in Santiago, Chile, Neosintetico offers six tracks that sound as though they were discovered a few decades ago, with vintage drum machines and raw synths colliding in a harmonious trajectory. Altered Electrical Transmission is an organic yet esoteric collection that unravels with an industrial and glitch/breaks pulse. Its pulsating quality is chiefly evident on the opening title track, which drives a core statement of acidic rhythms and scraping sound patterns as the underlying machinery seems to hum. The intense breakbeats and heavy artillery of “Run Anxiety” create a powerful, bizarre soundscape, while “Space Drone”‘s soothing synth waves provide a slight sense of serenity midway through.
On some tracks, such as “Explosive decompression” and “Monkey man machine,” which have sample-heavy vocals and an illbient glitch-hop leaning, melodic stretches and broken beat patterns collide. The subliminal messaging of “Emotion = sensation” is concluded with a sample of Meat Beat Manifesto’s drifting and saccharine entanglement of “Untold Stories” from Satyricon (Mute, 1992). The beats, bass, and blissful distortion of this EP offer a massive auditory behemoth of gritty structures that take us way back. Filled with relentless percussive sound collages, Altered Electrical Transmission inches its way to our list of the Best of 2024.
