In the end PanFM: Chapter 2 is a thorough manifest of audio scribbling that not only augments and realigns the original, it comes across as a compelling 4-track EP of self-contained electronic expressions.
[Release page] The remix—an opportunity to augment and realign original pieces with the views of another sonic sculptor. Sometimes a seemingly meaningless endeavor when the original track(s) are pristine in their intended structure, Mindbuffer offers up the second chapter in the PanFM series (have a listen to the first chapter here), with mind-altering contributions from Valence Drakes, Woulg, Broken Chip and Borealis. The results are well worth the price of admission—$0.
Valence Drakes has been on fire lately and for his remix he slows down the rhythm and intensifies the atmosphere. Woulg contorts the percussion in spastic style for a few minutes and eventually pans out into a lullaby that stirs the emotions. Broken Chip treads ambient low-pressure waves filled with bass and a sublime troposphere of lightly brushed data. Borealis takes “PanFM” to epic levels of pseudo-shoegaze dub with swaying lyrical buzzing throughout. And in the end PanFM: Chapter 2 is a thorough manifest of audio scribbling that not only augments and realigns the original, it comes across as a compelling 4-track EP of self-contained electronic expressions. Mindbuffer and his sonic cohorts elicit a new fragrance of future worlds devoid of preconceived notions of IDM and instead treads lightly on cross-pollinating genres with ease and skill. Beautifully extracted segments brought to us by the Australian purveyors of bass, beat and rhythm—Enig’matik.
