Nerds of a feather? A collection by nerds, for nerds? Micromusic.net, a place where game-nerds who are also musicians can upload their work. The 17 tunes on the collection are supposedly the best of the lot. The tunes are put together from sounds sampled from game-consoles like Commodore 64, Gameboy, Playstation, etc. The first part of the disc has the kind of sound you would expect; updated computer game music. The later tracks take a different approach, several exciting excursions in electronic listening music that sometimes verges on post-rock–not bad at all. Several of the artists cheat, and use sample sources other than computer games. The end result is a somewhat splintered release, with a bunch of good tracks and a whole lot of very synthetic bleeps and bloops.
There is of course a multimedia partition on the disc, a simple but sort of funny computer game that is also a database on the artists included (all but one are male, several are from Australia and one is from Japan, that sort of thing). Micro_Superstarz_2000 is fun, but is that enough? Maybe I’m not enough nerd for the collection.
