Within these thudding analog bass lines and sandblasted harmonies, de Rocher continues to pierce raw elements of electro and braindance.
Consistently playful robot electronics for the soul
Back in pure form, not surprisingly, with pulsing bass stabs and melodic bubbles bursting from all angles, Lowfish (aka Gregory de Rocher) operates at full speed; his analog machines buzzing in sweet harmony. Signature rhythms shift across moody backdrops as acid lines glitch on opener “8_OP Extended Version.” The title track casts a gorgeous ambient soundtrack motif as it slowly morphs into a blissful drum and low-end rumbling groove that tugs at the heartstrings.
Within these thudding analog bass lines and sandblasted harmonies, de Rocher continues to pierce raw elements of electro and braindance. “Sound Equipment” is the perfect example of his definitive style and timeless sonic architecture with what feels like a bass-booster (midway through) that hits the spot, whereas the saccharine closure of “Theme to Tedium” dips into classic bleep techno, wide open echoes, and slick synth maneuvers.
There’s that certain something that surrounds not only this EP, but Lowfish’s overall ability to remain nostalgic, without the cheesy aftertaste. With such an expansive catalog of releases spanning over two decades (Suction, City Centre Offices, Satamile, and Ersatz Audio—to name a few), we still fear not the snow and other lo-fiing objects all these years later and its a pleasure to see him join the Analogical Force family with consistently playful robot electronics for the soul. More please.
