Fuses are blown, torch paper is lit, missiles are fired, land mines erupt and a poisonous volcanic ash contaminates every rock and crevasse you could possibly imagine. The whole recording is much of the same with little variation in theme and presents a crazed fight, war bombing electronic heat that melts just about everything it comes into contact with.
'”][Release page] Live Double Séance is basically a live recording of a 6-channel loudspeaker concert of improvised electronic music. It was recorded on November 14 2010, at the Aanen Lumo Festival for New Soundsat Myllysali, Suomenlinna Island, Helsinki. Given that information, it certainly promises to be an interesting listen.
The duo first met during the German premiere of the Music in Movement Electronic Orchestra in Cologne. Since then, it’s been dynamic forces combined with painted projection of idealistic analog synth. No editing or mixing was applied to the recording, which features Thomas Lehn on synthesizers and Marcus Schmickler on computer. It’s certainly an eclectic release and very much aimed at the purist. The reason being, it’s such an acquired taste, it’s definitely not for the faint hearted. It’s at the heart of electronic creations being quirky, different, and can become very sharp and prickly if approached without warning.
Squeaky playground furniture – in abundance, and perhaps considerably more projected into the mix. Mainly revealing itself as one of violent intrigue some elements of sound can be brutal as it grinds its way through masses of experimentation – plenty aimed at evoking drama with pure sound. It’s an on-going, untried, computerized melody – much like a Spectrum 100 has entered a war-zone. Just about every instrument is firing on all cylinders – ripping into each core with a ruthless abandon that cannot be controlled.
Be prepared to encounter masses of explosives that fire randomly yet precisely, all ending with a dissonant burst of conclusion.
