Following release in early July, Fictions, somewhat mirroring its own dynamic, has taken time to reach peak resonance, creeping via auditory channels into psychoactive life, effectively bringing together the defining elements of each of Lamasz and Grandbruit into a single body of work.
The return to Past Inside the Present of Pierre Luc (Lamasz) and Francis Tremblay (Grandbruit) with this collaboration comes on the back of four solo releases across the label: Fictions draws on Nature Morte (2020) and Broderie (2021) in tape loop-driven nature, Ruptures (2020) and Ville inerte (2021) in use of stratified guitar and environmental sound, common ground found in manicured noise, overall ambience and recursive habit. The brothers allow a gradual evolution, pieces looping into processed guitar-smeared harmonic tracts, tape hiss effectively taking on an active compositional role transcending background color.
