A vibrant array of rhythmic and melodic flourishes defines Inmate Shuffle, a five-track suite from renowned Dutch IDM craftsman Kettel (Reimer Eising). Each piece, concise at around five minutes, showcases his enduring ability to fuse intricate beats with poignant, melodic expression. The title track opens with a reflective nod to braindance, its delicate motifs unfolding beneath crisp breakbeats and warm acid pulses.
“Park Here Parker” eases into a gentler stride, slowing just enough to let harmonies breathe, yet maintaining that unmistakable Kettel pulse—melody and rhythm dancing in lockstep. Eising shifts gears again on “Keymm,” weaving crunchy drill’n bass patterns with an almost playful reverence for melodic structure, giving this piece a uniquely expressive drive.
With “No Rat,” he charts a different path—interlocking techno fragments, glitched edges, and gliding acid tones, all colored by subtle harmonic shifts. Finally, “Dedemoon” closes the collection on a fragile, bouncing note, echoing classic IDM traditions while bearing that unmistakable signature: bubbling sequences, brittle contours, and an emotive melodic thread that only Kettel could spin so effortlessly.
