Jvox :: Strange Universe 3 (Component)

SU3 is yet another foray into the unknown; allowing its listeners to traverse distant and dense sound structures that are utterly unique and abstract, eerie and serene, chaotic and calm, and often at the same time.

Kaleidoscope melodies crunch, snap, and fissile

Crumpled audio time capsules lost in space; Jvox (aka Joel Tallent) returns again with an album packed with downtempo rhythms, chilled drums, and fractured hip-hop—following up from his Strange Universe series (SU2 was surprisingly released in 2015.) It’s indeed a strange universe that Jvox has inhabited; a musical formula that the multi talented artist is able to extract every possible inch from—and we’re glad he continues to.

Tangled samples and kaleidoscope melodies crunch, snap, and fissile through the outer edges of our atmosphere. Jvox is an artist that has stayed true to his sonic craft of disjointedly fluid pieces. Tracks like “Winchester Encounter” and “Skipping” deliver a sheen of time gone by, where artists like Loess and Teebs have found common ground. The textured clips and vintage soundscapes (ref. “Everything Speeds Up”) could run on a loop without wear. And yet Jvox isn’t content with only tranquilized flutter; tracks like “Contact” and “Pyr Amid” take on larger bass and beat slabs; submerging funk and industrial breaks meshed with downtempo strains and simply elevating them to a whole other plateau.
