It’s rare in these days of retrospective imitation to hear something new. Juanpablo bucks this trend with his first installment of the Lost Series.

[Release page] Spain has rarely been known for its electronic output. In more recent times the Iberian peninsula has begun to take electronic shape. The likes of Alex Stark and Semantica have helped give a vinyl voice for budding machine artists. A Columbian musician, and label owner, calls Spain’s capital his home. Juanpablo and Frigio Records have been dishing up steaming slices of House, Techno and Electro from new and established names since 2008. The head-honcho has slaved over a hot synth to bring to your local record store Electronics with a hint of Español. Four tracks, one a very special remix, make up the first of an upcoming series: Lost Series (Part 1).

The juddering bass and distorted crashes of “Harpia” uncover the Lost Series. The track amalgamates a spread of styles, with Juanpablo utilizing his knowledge of House, Techno and Electro to create a complex and undefinable piece of electronic music. “Anaconda” takes a cue from Jakbeat, but doesn’t truly fit the genre. Beats are delayed and postponed whilst a sinister, almost horror soundtrack, melody stalks. The ingredients of House are present, such as hi-hats, but used sparingly. Juanpablo opens the lid on something blackened, sepulchral and undeniably powerful. To drive the patient further into their nightmare is a debutant remixing line-up. Stuttgart’s Mick Wills and Isabella Venis team up with The Hague’s Intergalactic Gary to take on the “Anaconda.” I-G has gained well-deserved respect in music circles for his superb mixes. The Netherlander has been silent on the music front since his excellent collaboration with I-F as The Parallax Corporation. Wills is fresh from his recent remix work for J.T.C. on Minimal Rome. The track rumbles out of the lot on steely arpegiated line. Deep bass beats drive the piece forward as knife-like chords slice through the thick under melody. A dense, hypnotic and horror soundtrack piece. The final is a primitive punch; “Jaguar.” Tribal samples sit opposite splintered beats and jagged hi-hats. Juanpablo churns the track, stirring its contents into a simmering soup of corrosive sounds.

It’s rare in these days of retrospective imitation to hear something new. Juanpablo bucks this trend with his first installment of the Lost Series. Frigio owner sinks in the teeth from the first groove and holds a vice-like bite until the run out. Raw and aggressive from start to finish with Mick Wills and I-G twisting the whiskers of the beast.
