The Hemlock EP ultimately balances two artists (Precocious Mouse and Trojanovskx) operating on opposite sides of the same sonic arch—one dipping into micro-bleep tones, the other into surreal rhythmic space.
Precocious Mouse (aka Caleb Wood) seamlessly emits Oval versus Pole-styled frequency bursts—the bubbling bass, blips, skips, and ominous yet scattered electrical debris is subtle and effective (ref. “Coiine”). Trojanovskx (Aurelia Trojanovska) delves into minimal, sparse rhythms—spliced drums looped and built up as heavier low-end slabs give off a luminous air (ref. “The Erotic Objects”). Precocious Mouse once again continues to extrapolate fluttering glitch, snaps, and static on “Inhibit Action,” counterbalancing this extended player of fizz, fuzz, and odd fissures. Trojanovskx maintains a darker rolling strain of hypnotic electronics with “Cloudlighter”—an analog avalanche that shuffles its hard-edged transmission in the darkness. The Hemlock EP ultimately balances two artists operating on opposite sides of the same sonic arch—one dipping into micro-bleep tones, the other into surreal rhythmic space. We are definitely looking forward to what Edited Arts has in store next—their platform for musicians and art stands just as firm as Raster (Noton) and Mille Plateaux (back in the day). An interesting, abstract, and compelling split release to say the least.
Hemlock is available on Edited Arts.
