Perspective Change is an exciting look into a (newer) generation of sparse low-end manipulations without jumping off the experimental deep end. Lush and driven dub with an emotional dynamic.

[Release page] Rotterdam, Netherlands-based He3dless (born Jeff van der Post) is the newest signing with Mindtrick, a well-oiled bass machine of an imprint that has continued to release leftfield low-end emissions for half a decade. For the Perspective Change EP, He3dless examines the internal workings of polished yet subtle melodic dubstep. Not quite in your face, but firmly seeded in fields of looping rhythms and rolling basslines, Perspective Change is utterly engulfing. It all begins with the title track, a hypnotic pattern of bright melodic flickering, dribbling tones, minuscule vocal clips and contagious simplicity. “Lousebath” administers similar frequencies albeit in a darker vein—more suited for back alley escapes in the dead of night rather than loosing yourself on the dance-floor. One can’t help but feel the warmth flowing from every edge—time trickles away as microscopic bleeps cascade among organic patches of percussion. “Straight” pushes the beat and breaks away into a breathtaking mixture of trance-induced sheets of fog—an upbeat focus on emotion and an evolution of dub and bass is at its core. EVS’ remix of “Straight” entangles familiar chords into a maze of extraterrestrial audio shifs and manages to spark coherent goose-bumps along the way. Closing with the sub-aquatic stutter of “Do Y,” He3dless is a master of subtle dub movements. Taking cues from Rumpistol and early Mothboy, a curious yet serious flow of electrons migrate around rumbling basslines. Perspective Change is an exciting look into a (newer) generation of sparse low-end manipulations without jumping off the experimental deep end. Lush and driven dub with an emotional dynamic.
