Slowly creeping back and forth in a rhythmic shadowy abyss, the Ocelo EP is a deep-seated electronic billow that doesn’t let up.
Known Rebel follows up from the release of Hollow (Typmanik Audio, 2012) with a new home on this brief sojourn with Mindtrick. This time taking on a more tranquilized approach, Ocelo is a four-track extended player which yields sincere low-flying yet highly effective moods. Simply put, four contagious musical slices of life are on display.
“Reborn” is a highly emotive downtempo dub strain filled with subdued—almost crying—vocal treatments and harmonic rhythms that stir the heartstrings. The title track yields percussive ambience, windy basslines, floating dust particles, crunched claps and a slow motion blur for the senses. “Cenacle” adheres to early Burial breezes, punchy bass-beats, atmospheric strings and tethered vocal shapeshifting throughout as Delete’s “Ocelo” reinterpretation contains a much darker theme. This closing remix unleashes deep rumbling low-end and minimized melodic loops lost somewhere in a thick wooded forest as the cover artwork aptly suggests.
