Playground 1 is an EP of six braindance and brittle melodic data streams that can also be found via previously released compilations—particularly with X4 Records. Conversely, “Diality,” which opens after the punchy rhythms of “Distraction” and its jarring technoid drums, moves through a number of disparate concepts without settling on just one. Highlight “Linker” features gritty percussive juggling and a playful demeanor while its twisted (distant) cousin “Linker 2” explodes with pulsating bass and bleeps and heavier drill’n bass slabs. While “Wormhole,” the EP’s finale, has an artistic flair for melodic threads and bubbling low-end wobble, the drums keep building on the jungle infusion of “Think Happy.” This potent 6-pack—with mastering by Danny Playamaqui, studio9000 Barcelona, Amina Foxdye, Charles W. Knowles, and none other than the IDM maestro himself, Bola—was published in April 2023.
