Orbiting sub-genres of techno, electro, acid and IDM

Rome has a rich history of electronic music. Adding to the annals of ACV, Nature and Minimal Rome comes a new imprint. Giano Electronics is a collective, “formed by a group of producers and DJs from the orbiting sub-genres of techno, electro, acid and IDM,” says co-founder Valerio Biaocchi. The first 12” just hitting stores brings together artists and members exploring the above styles with some serious results.

T/Error, of Bass Agenda and Fundamental Records fame, opens. “Neuromancer” is a stark vision. Industrial pulses echo through beats and bruising key stabs, muddied acid lines bubbling to an oil-stained surface. JFrank, a musician who has been experimenting with machines for more than two decades, serves up “Premeditatio Malorum.” A deep dive into the circuits and wires of his equipment, the track is a frenzied cacophony of modular jam and smooth electronica. The ante is upped with Akalle closing the A-Side. Rising waves of synth crash into thick bass and slicing snares as an thick acrid brew simmers without bubbling over. The flip, Anywave offering “Cfrigiancid,” melts angular 303 shapes and silken chords with a rave scented drum pattern adding a touch of fun to this superbly immersive piece. The curtain fall comes care of Heinrich Dressel. “A Few Thoughts Away” shows the colder electro edge of this stalwart. A frigid rasping rhythm is further chilled by broad ghostly synth-lines, an otherworld of oblong sounds unfolding from a master of absorbing electronics.

Giano Electronics Vol.1 is a showcase of what the collective and label hope to achieve. The “sub-genres of techno, electro, acid and IDM” are all present on this 12” and executed with precision and emotion. A strong first statement from the Italian capital.
