Federico Durand :: Té De Flores Silvestres (IIKKI)

Appealing and introverted feelings pass over the full album, trembling at the sounding surface with a hazy solemnity. Colorful and warm, the soundscapes are spiritually nurturing; enriched by subtle melodic lines and cultivate a sensation of freedom and lightness.

IIKKI is the sub-label of French based published laaps whose catalog and musical production oscillate between downtempo ambient and organic minimalism with a solid emotional component. IIKKI embraces a relatively similar direction and welcome notorious sound artists/projects such as Andrea Belfi, Gareth Davis and Danny Clay. Federico Durand is a familiar name in the galaxy of modern day ambient music. I discovered his work back in time with the memorable El Estanque Esmeralda (Spekk, 2014). He has been quite productive along the years so I must confess I have not explored his complete discography (yet).

Té De Flores Silvestres is his latest album and brings to the fore dreamy and reflective soundscapes largely built on meandering textures and vaporous ambient-ish pads covered by glitch-esque micro sounds and noises. It is beautifully serene, meditative, unobtrusive and delicate, inviting the listener to a profound state of quietness. Appealing and introverted feelings pass over the full album, trembling at the sounding surface with a hazy solemnity. Colorful and warm, the soundscapes are spiritually nurturing; enriched by subtle melodic lines and cultivate a sensation of freedom and lightness. Recommended for fans of Green Kingdom, Offthesky, Hakobune, ojeRum, Darren Harper and a bright introduction to the granular minimal ambient and the sentient electronic miniature soundscapes of Federico Durand.
