The 5-track release entitled Faith brings deep peace and beauty in the form of music, which the listener can easily relate to film scores as a rich set of scene imagery comes to mind automatically.
A delicate and sensible release
The UK-based ambient music label Home Normal, originally founded in Japan, has just released on July 5th the debut EP of Federica Deiana, Stefano Guzzetti’s young protégé who studies in Cagliari, Italy, and works as a sound designer for movies and docs. The 5-track release entitled Faith brings deep peace and beauty in the form of music, which the listener can easily relate to film scores as a rich set of scene imagery comes to mind automatically.
The piece begins smoothly with “Forward,” a track formed by layers that fade in gently to create an ambience of thoughtfulness and contemplation, but with a touch of action as the piano induces that feeling to express the song title. “Leaves” follows with lovely arpeggios that change the tempo while evolving, a sense of movement and also randomness, as if the song goes “mickey-mousing” like leaves flying with the wind. Somehow it reminded me of Phillip Glass. Next comes “Microcosm,” a more synthetic piece in terms of timbres, that flows through textures punctuated by melancholic and futuristic drops. “Eyes” maintains the downer vibes with a classical piano lead that emulates tears coming down on a very sad scene of a motion picture drama. The oneiric “August 11th” concludes the rather short EP with long note synth pads, subtle bird sounds, and a crescendo white noise bed that leaves a desire for more music. Fans of sound-scores and ambient music should appreciate this delicate and sensible release.
