An onslaught of grit and smoldering bass
A behemoth right from the start, the onslaught of grit and smoldering bass on Fausten’s Mercenary is as dark as it can possibly get. Julian Caraz aka Monster-X (Opal Tapes, Murder Channel) and Derek Szeto aka Stormfield (Combat) join forces as Fausten with four original cuts and a remix of the title track by none other than Mick Harris (aka Scorn)—this time under his Fret moniker. You can imagine the results as Acroplane continue to rattle the underground electronic scene with pummeling sound-escapes.
Five tracks cutting through rippling synth-blasts, “Phosphorous” is an ethereal opener scraping its way through industrial shards and vocal shifts. “Cathedral” unveils even darker elements; a beat-less, noise-infested nightmare as “Joir de Gloire” features illbient, downtempo, and a grittiness all its own. The title track clangs its way through unlit corridors, subtle glitch bleeps, and a slow-motion bass line sludge as Fret’s rework goes full-throttle with an unrelenting bass’n beats cacophony of epic proportion.
