You Look Different, the debut album from French producer Eymeric Amselem (aka Fall Therapy) on n5MD records, is a genre blending effort ranging from soft, modern classical compositions, to dance floor worthy grooves. From the intro track, “Wrong,” it is quite clear that the focus is on production quality. With the second track “Taste of Variance,” crispy digital percussive elements take over the mix while ominous sounding synth pads provide the perfect back drop to a swinging electro beat. Halfway through the song a nifty plucked guitar loop fades in and takes you along for the ride. “Consistency” is more of a straightforward techno banger featuring a solid four on the floor kick and constantly evolving arpeggios—once all the layers are mixed in it becomes one seriously infectious track. The mood of You Look Different changes up a bit with a reverb drenched guitar and piano oriented piece titled “Simple Things Fading Away.” A thoughtful arrangement showcasing the talent and multi-instrumental skills of Amselem. With the following track “Guilt” you can hear haunting vocals reminiscent of label-mates Lights Out Asia, and Tobias Lilja. Towards the end the drum tracks begin shuffling and breaking apart, flowing properly into the next song, “Concessions.” A Reese-style bass line immediately takes over the low-end and puts your ears on attention. “Abraded” (a personal favorite) is sprinkled with organic vocals and violin layers, as well as his signature deep fried electronic drums. Finally the outro “Nobody Can” sends you out on a lighter note, that perfectly concludes with a sigh, and the flicking of the off switch.

You Look Different is available on n5MD October 19, 2018.
