Not Enough Fahzers builds on Galaxy Gust. Bekker’s latest on Central Processing Unit sees a different side to this talented artist, an electro slant amongst the bleeps and plonks of the Braindance motif.
[Release page] FAH, aka Robin De Bekker, starts the new year with a new release. Bekker has gained a following on the back of his excellent Galaxy Gust EP on 030303 and his generous website content. The Netherlander leaves his homeland for a release on Central Processing Unit, the label founded by Sheffield Bleep. This new imprint opened its doors with some excellent electro from Cygnus and is now widening the net with Not Enough Fahzers.
The power and drive that categorized FAH’s EP on 030303 is present from the beginning. The title piece reverberates into being, Bekker laying pinpricks of sound before a snare drops. Warmth and analogue comfort are developed, the cold beats juxtaposed by the more inviting computer codes. The influence of Aphex Twin is never far away with FAH. “Casting the Rod” has something of Mr. James to it, the melodies unsteadily moving from key to key as a wonderful electric noodling pushes through to the forefront. Terse 808 lines meet the listener with “Glowism,” a darkened cloud descending from the electro heavens. Bekker’s trademark meshing and reworking is less present in this piece, the Dutch man sticking to the colder formula for a quality and unnerving cut. “Magnetic Freedom” is a melodic work of rumbling electronics. A thick beat and electro mood form the central landscape, but Bekker constantly shifts the plates with acid aquifers and a playfulness running throughout.
