F. S. Blumm :: Mondkuchen (Morr Music)

Mondkuchen, like the Wechsel Garland album from last winter,
represents a radical shift in style from Morr Music’s regular
releases. Having a lot more to do with post rock than electronic
listening music, these are calm compositions that use traditional
instruments, and not just from the western cultural canon. Some
tracks have a distinct feel of gamelan music, while still accessible
to a western ear. I am reminded of watching eastern european and
asian animated short films on the box as a kid–good old state
financed television. Other tracks could be incidental music from some
old european movie, yet with a modern quirkiness to them.

And note: instead of the traditional 20 minute silence before the
no-so-hidden track we get a recording of an apartment, with somebody
talking german on the phone in the background–in truth a novel idea.
Seriously though, Mondkuchen is a very interesting album no
post rock fan should be without.
