Morr Music begin its operations in 1999 and quickly established itself at the forefront of the electronic music scene by releasing albums from artists such as B. Fleischmann, Phonem and Lali Puna as well as the Putting The Morr Back in Morrissey compilation; a compilation which was described as genre defining in some circles, as it featured a healthy dose of electronics coupled with a melodic and often melancholic pop sensibility.the label’s unique musical style is coupled by an important graphic counterpart courtesy of in-house designer Jan Kruse of o8 Design.

During the past years the label has been shifting its focus slowly back towards indie-pop territory as this is where most of the label’s artists have their roots. This shift is more than confirmed by the release of the Blue Skied’n Clear compilation (Fall, 2002), a double album with one cd full of Slowdive covers and a second one with original new work by the label’s artists. Electronic music with a full on indie-pop twist.

Ms. John Soda is the band of Steffi Boehm (Couch) and Micha Acher (the Notwist, Tied & Tickled Trio). So far, they have released their highly acclaimed debut album No P. or D.” in Fall 2002, followed by their current mini LP While Talking in October 2003. Their music is a perfect blend of emotional indie-pop and technical, unpretentious sophistication.

B. Fleischmann from Vienna provided the first ever release on Morr Music in 1999. His Poploops For Breakfast put the label and himself on the electronica map instantly. The classically trained pianist awed produced simple and powerful beats melodies, all composed on a tiny groovebox. The same goes for his follow up EP Sidonie. Bernhard’s new album Welcome Tourist, however, embraces guest musicians as well as vocals and presents itself more complex than earlier releases. Still, Fleischmann displays a deep understanding for great pop songs.

Berliner Christian Kleine loves his hip-hop beats as much as early 90s, pale shoe-gazing bands. He always manages to add his very own elctronica touch to his productions. That not only shows on his Valis EP released on Morr Music in 2001, but also in Hermann & Kleine, a project he runs with City Centre Offices co-owner Thaddi Herrmann. C. kleine often is considered to be Morr Music’s most danceable act.
