Set within the ongoing restoration of East London’s historic Tate Institute, Sunden’s one-take live performance transforms themes of collapse, renewal, and emotional reconstruction from Minor Coda into a visceral audiovisual experience.

Themes of change and transition
This live set from Sunden was shot at The Tate Institute/REinsTate in London, a community hub first built in 1887 now being rebuilt for the communities of East London. The video captures the themes of change and transition that are present in Sunden’s debut album Minor Coda, released last year, providing a visual counterpoint as ReSpace Projects return the 139 year old building to its original purpose as a community space.
The set consists of three tracks from Minor Coda: “Broke Over Me Like A Rainstorm,” “Fugit Amor” and “Coda.” Sunden uses an Octatrack and modular synth to breathe new life into the tracks, blending them and controlling tension and release. The video was shot in one take by videographer Milo Hutchings to capture the aliveness of the performance, carrying the camera and exploring the space in response to the music.
The visualizer for the album, created by visual artist Misbah, is a 3D rendering of the block of flats from the cover of the record collapsing, looped on a CRT TV next to Sunden’s equipment. The image of towers collapsing is a visual metaphor for the emotional contents of the album, with the tower card in tarot signifying a necessary and often involuntary restructuring that breaks down false foundations to make space for a more authentic reality.
