A behemoth in and of itself
Ex.Hale continues to deliver the goods and Mothra is no exception. The prevailing strong winds generated from these nine tracks are enough to cause a hurricane. Tribal infused electronics from the onset, “Wide Dirty” is a smorgasbord of rhythmic sputtering groove that kicks-off this blissful audio assault. Tangled subatomic dub particles overflow with drum’n bass layers on “Dandelion” as Mothra stores its energy in swells. The title track, perhaps culled from a Sci-Fi film from 2050 we’ve yet to see, rattles the ears with its sonic magma and eerie expansion. Jauzas The Shining takes the title track on remix duty and elevates it to a whole other dimensional space—an ethereal ambient undercurrent (think FSOL) takes over the landscape with a synthesized growl. The bass, beats and breaks of “Neurale” places Ex.Hale in a universe of his own—fluttering, low-end robotic electro from the underworld. Ultimately, Mothra is a behemoth in and of itself—taking us through even darker sound-scraping environments than previous releases.
