For those familiar with the PSA collective will immediately feel right at home with Technical Swamp—however, what delves further is the essence of dub and broken beat influences in this one.
Dub weight and fractured electronics
Never shedding a doubt, Point Source Electronic Arts return with another exquisite release with the latest artist to join the roster Esoteric Abstraction. Presenting the 6-tracker Technical Swamp, Esoteric Abstraction combines dub weight and fractured electronics into a heavily seasoned soup that sludges through broken beats and glitched-out melodies. Opening with “Rude Boi Ting,” there is an element of narrative as we enter a redux’ed game of Follow The Leader—probably best to keep your wits about you, as we soon delve deeper into the darkened world of Technical Swamp.
The mood doesn’t let up as we continue through to “70’s Ramen,” a hyper intensive digestive slurp of intoxicating digital liquids, the spice is bang on as you enjoyable sweat yourself through this gurgling cacophony.
My favorite being “Semi-Conductive” which is reminiscent of “Plaistow Flex Out,” except Tom Jenkins has had a few jars before stepping up to the mic. With these environments often feeling treacherous, we can also see hints like this that seems to put Esoteric Abstraction as an artist who is not just talented, but as someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously also. Always a plus in my eyes.
