/DL/MS/ :: Calanhi (TRUST)

Touching the edges of electro, raw bass blasting, and swirling synths submerged in gold dust.

A powerful collection of next-level electronics

This album came out of nowhere; a debut from /DL/MS/ veteran Austrian DJ/producer duo Dan Lodig (Lok44) and Martin Sovinz (Dibek), Calanhi sees a release with TRUST. The title track’s Part 1 is a gorgeous opener of phosphorus ambient emotions and stretched voices. Calanhi exhibits all the benchmark’s of a solid experimental electro-nic album.

Touching the edges of electro, raw bass blasting, and swirling synths submerged in gold dust, Part 2 overflows with glitchy rhythmic lightening bolts. As the engines warm up, DL/MS/ takes an industrial switch as tracks like “Accelerated Frequency” (feat Xx Isis xX) dabbles in additional vocal strands as its low-end rumble catches fire. Braindance elements and large breakbeat blocks rummaging through acid waters take hold on “Brainphase Cancellation” as its brisk and bubbly melodic bits shake and shimmy their way through the dense verdant undergrowth. There are heavier tracks yet; “Trusted Funk” breaks through the turbulence with fidgeting low-flying pulsars and Kraftwerk inspired electro shenanigans—a recipe for utterly explosive warehouse grooves. Muted robotic numbers like “Invisible Bits” are macroscopically engaged, broken and twisted bass lines flutter about in this nostalgic behemoth.

Calanhi is a powerful collection of next-level electronics with its soul buried deep within a mechanical outer shell—exquisitely mastered by none other than Keith Tenniswood (aka Radioactive Man) with attention to every possible detail, this one’s a highlight for 2022.

Calanhi is available on TRUST. [Bandcamp]
